Mississippi reports casino revenue fall

Gambling facilities in the state reported that gamblers lost 3 percent less year-on-year in September.

US.- The State Revenue Department released the numbers that showed that casino revenue fell across Mississippi in September, with Gulf Coast casinos reporting sharper declines than gambling facilities along the Mississippi River.

The numbers show that players lost US$167 million in the state in September, approximately 3 percent less than September 2016’s results of US$171 million. Receipts also decreased 3 percent to US$95 million at the 12 coastal casinos, which is also the fourth monthly decrease reported in 2017. Casino revenues had achieved good results in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

The 16 river casinos also decreased winnings 2 percent to US$71 million, down from the US$73 million achieved during the same period last year, whilst statewide revenue was down 2.5 percent during the first nine months. These numbers don’t include Choctaw Indian casinos as they don’t report winnings to the state.

Last month, the Department showed that casinos along the Mississippi River experienced a revenue decline, whilst Gulf Coast gambling facilities managed to hold their presence in August.
