Michigan could pass DFS betting

Lawmakers in Michigan are pushing DFS bipartisan bills that may pave the way for the segment as it’d be considered a skill game, not gambling.

US.- The online gaming industry may take one huge step in a Northern state of the US. Lawmakers in Michigan are pushing bills to legalise DFS (daily fantasy sports) as a game of skill, rather than gambling.

The bipartisan bills cleared a Senate committee and would pave the way for the segment as a game of skill. However, Michigan would require popular DFS operators to get a licence to run cash leagues.

“Really this is free-market legislation that protects citizens but lets the business of fantasy sports keep going here in Michigan,” said Sen. Curtis Hertel. “We shouldn’t be penalising people for basic entertainment. Really this is just another way to enjoy sports and the way we watch.”

“To be clear, Michigan residents who’ve been playing fantasy sports with their buddies for decades, maybe each of them probably throwing some money for a prize for the winner at the end of the season, won’t be subject to regulation under this legislation. In fact, they won’t see any difference at all,” Scott Ward lawyer for DraftKings and FanDuel said.
