MGM and MLB sign sports betting partnership
The sports league signed a multiyear marketing agreement with MGM Resorts International.
US.- The Major League Baseball (MLB) along with MGM Resorts International announced this week that they reached a new multiyear marketing agreement. This is the first official gambling partner for the MLB.
As reported by MGM, this deal is similar to the one it has already signed with the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Hockey League (NHL), as it will be able to use baseball’s logo and trademarks in states that have legalised sports betting. The National Football League (NFL) is now the only major sports league without a sports betting partnership.
While the details of the deal weren’t announced, it is estimated that it is worth around the same as the one with the NBA, which brings US$8.3 million per year. MGM will use the league’s logo, data and statistics to expand its offering across the country. However, the deal leaves the door open for the MLB to sign similar partnerships with other companies in the future.
“There’s been a huge change in public opinion and the legal framework surrounding sports gaming — it has created an opportunity for all sports and baseball in particular,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said at a press conference. “We have to take advantage of every opportunity to drive engagement with our fans.”
