Melco to host event in Cyprus next month
Melco is set to hold the groundbreaking ceremony for its Cyprus casino on June 8th.
Cyprus.- Lawrence Ho, CEO of Melco Resorts and Entertainment, revealed that the groundbreaking ceremony for the new casino-resort located in Cyprus will be held on June 8th. Last week the company had announced the appointment of Craig Robertson Ballantyne as its new property president.
Ho said during the presentation of the new casino Morpheus for Cypriot journalists in Macau that “a week before the Morpheus opens we are going to have a ground breaking in Cyprus and even the temporary facility is due to open this summer.”
The integrated resort will feature 70,000 square feet of gaming space, as well as a 6,000-square-foot VIP “Casino in the Sky.” The upcoming casino will be the first to operate in the country. The US$573 million first phase will feature 42,000 square feet of meeting space, 500 hotel rooms, 15 food spaces and a water park, a beach club and a spa.
Ho said that besides the additional 300k tourists a year that the casino is going to bring to Cyprus, the local GDP is expected to grow 4 per cent. “We are very happy and fortunate that we won the competitive bid for the licence in Cyprus,” he said.
