(Exclusive interview).- Domenico Vacchiano has recently been appointed as Head of Tech at Magellan Robotech and he talked with Focus Gaming News about his first seps on his new role.
UK.- While some companies suffer many headaches due to the Coronavirus breakdown, this situation presents tremendous opportunities for others. Magellan Robotech is definitely in the last group and Domenico Vacchiano will have a key role at the company.
What are your main challenges as the new Head of Tech at Magellan?
Becoming a tech influencer for the company and a good leader for my team, are for sure the main challenges that I’m planning to take on with clear and pragmatic objectives, aligning my tech and product vision with the business and supporting my team with my extensive experience as a manager and tech leader.
What is your strategic goal for the company?
Promoting innovation and digital transformation will be one of the main strategic goal that I will persevere introducing a number of disruptive technologies that have been catching the wave and today are adopted, and driven by a long-term strategy, by organizations like Google and Netflix. I will be also committed to develop and improve a cross functional team culture, that in tech helps people to be widely proactive on several product and tech domains and to align individual and team goals with business.
How does the COVID-19 crisis impact on your job at the company and how do you and the company as a w hole are planning to adapt to the current scenario?
Magellan is an agile company and remote work is part of our culture and day to day operations, so our staff can continue to support the business without any operational discontinuity also during this emergency period.
The agile mindset of the Group, makes easy our work not only for tech and in terms of software development, but also for other departments such us the HR team that has been continuing to on-board people (including myself!) using an extremely smart and effective remote process.

Executive Director Pierluigi Chiusolo said you’ll work on “the next generation platform”, what do you think such a product/solution should include?
As Pierluigi said, at Magellan we have been working on a NextGen-Platform where the vision is to put in synergy and to be driven by three main objectives:
➢ Innovation
➢ Product first
➢ Player first
We want to offer a platform that will be able to scale and support any kind of business from a start-up level to Tier 1 operators, without suffering of any kind of cut and reduction in the behind technology at any level. We want to offer to anyone the opportunity to take benefit of a good B2B product supported by a good technology and in line with their business size, and able to support their business growth.
Real-Time Data Streaming supported by AI Analysis, are fields that we have been planning to introduce and that, from my perspective, will bring several benefits on the operator and player side. Operators will be able to easily understand and categorize players behaviours in a way to offer them customized and attractive offers.
Magellan NextGen-Platform will offer disruptive innovation in the same way that talented engineers at Netflix have been doing; indeed, they offer content as movies, we offer content as sports betting and casino games.
Our product vision is to offer an entertainment platform where players can enjoy our innovative gamification and promotional tools and at the same time to feel playing responsible in a safe environment driven by our AI Responsible Gambling Engine.

Magellan has recently been certified in an Eastern European market like Croatia and expanded its offering in Colombia with Virtual Trident, how important is it for your j ob to consider a global expansion plan?
Global expansion is extremely important, but also challenging because the industry is increasingly becoming regulated all around the world and, I see this as a trend that will spread in the future. Magellan has been demonstrating to put its focus to a global expansion and actually we are ready to enter with our online offer in Peru, that it seems soon will be regulated, USA, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Czech Republic, Poland and in Romania where actually we are already certified.
Specifically, for my job I see that we must be visionary enough to build products that will be easily conform to jurisdictional requirements keeping also in mind that gambling has a different cultural approach at country and continent level.
