Macau to stop new casino developments

The Macau government is pushing a bill that would ban the development of new gaming projects in any new land reclamation scheme.

Macau.- New gaming projects may not be able to get developed anymore in any Macau fresh land reclamation scheme within the territory as the government is pushing a new bill to stop new venues. The Executive Council made the announcement on Tuesday and will cover five land reclamation projects that are already under development.

An Executive Council’s spokesperson explained that the bill aims to unfold a new framework for managing Macau’s demarcated waters. That would involve the 85 square kilometres of water surrounding Macau over which the China’s State Council gave the local government powers to administer in December 2015.

Macau is one of the world’s main targets for international companies and this could be a major blow to those wishing to expant in the territory. However, there’s still a potential for arriving in the territorry with China’s central government’s approval but, if the bill gets approved, that’s highly unlikely.
