Macau sees increase in number of visitors

The Chinese enclave witnessed a 9.4% surge in travellers in November, compared to the same period the previous year.

Macau.- According to figures released by the Statistics and Census Service, the increase was driven by visitors from mainland China.

During the month of November, overnight travellers increased by 10% y-o-y with 1.51 million people staying more than one day in the city. For same-day visitors, Macau witnessed an 8.8% increase, compared to the same month in 2016, which saw 1.32 million visitors.

As reported by GGRAsia, the number of visitors from mainland China increased by 16% to 1.98 million. Of this number, 886,093 people were using the Individual Visit Scheme, a number that represents a 12% increase on last year. The majority of visitors from mainland China were from Hunan province, Guangdong province and Fujian province.

The second and third largest markets for visitors to Macau are Hong Kong and Taiwan. For the month, the number of visitors from Hong Kong declined 6.8% while Taiwan visitors increased by a small 0.7%.
