Japan to limit gambling advertising
The government could limit advertisement to international terminals to prevent problem gambling among its population.
Japan.- It’s only a matter of time before Japan turns into another top gambling destination in Asia but there are still some details to be set before the industry launches. That’s why the government is reportedly looking into a potential restriction to gambling advertising, which would only be allowed at international air and seaport terminals.
Companies would only be allowed to advertise their services in in the immigration and customs areas for travellers at international airports and seaport terminal. Such a decision is aimed at preventing problem gambling among the local population and would be implemented in March.
The IR Promotion Act was passed in July 2018 and the authorities have been looking for ways to prevent problem gambling ever since. That’s why gambling ads have been limited to incoming tourists only and will banned at tourist information centres, railways and buses where millions of Japanese people can see them daily.
