Iowa Lottery to strengthen security
Officials from the Iowa Lottery revealed that they’re planning to fix a security failure spotted years ago.
US.- Iowa Lottery authorities are set to improve the security of the tickets, as there was allegations that a failure spotted years ago is still present in the system. The lottery is also planning on pushing for the restitution of convicted gamblers related to lottery crimes.
Even though the state lottery has been involved in a series of cases that hurt its reputation, the lottery’s Chief Executive Officer Terry Rich supports the integrity of the institution, as he said that games in the state total approximately 130 million transactions annually, and that those are just specific cases, as Lottery Post said. ”We aren’t perfect, but when you look at the overall number, it’s pretty good because we work every day to try to improve. But there is always going to be somebody who tries to beat the system and so we balance income with integrity. The protection of the players is always first and foremost in our mind.”
Rich affirmed that that there’s no actual evidence that the lottery retailers have security problems, but he is still planning to contact stores in order to improve inventory control to stop theft of lottery tickets. “The vast majority of our retailers are fair and honest, and we see that because people have confidence in them and our sales continue to go up. And we are an optional purchase. Every time you walk up, you have to make a conscious decision whether it is fair and honest. People vote with their pocketbook, and obviously they are purchasing.”
