Indiana lawmaker sponsors legal sports betting bill

Any legislation dependent on federal ban being struck down by Supreme Court.

US.- An Indiana lawmaker has sponsored a bill that would prepare the state for legal sports betting, should the US Supreme Court strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act.

According to the Indianapolis Star, Republican Rep. Alan Morrison will push for sports betting legislation, despite opposition from the National Collegiate Athletic Association, which is headquartered close to the Indiana state capitol.

“It’s also important for the NCAA to understand that the landscape of gaming is changing throughout our country. I think they would hopefully have some understanding that Indiana would have rights just like the other states,” Morrison said.

“Obviously one of biggest events for sports wagering is March Madness (the NCAA basketball tournament). If they open it up to all 50 states, there will be gaming facilities in Ohio, in Michigan, in Illinois that are all doing it,” he added.
