Greece.- Greece will launch a “Receipt Lottery” to decrease tax evasion and encourage costumers to ask for the receipts. The campaign launched by the Finance Ministry will start later this month all across the country.
As the Greek Reporter revealed, the ministry has destined approximately US$13.4 million to the project, which is set to reward 50 consumers every day who use their debit or credit cards to purchase the lottery ticket at stores. Each ticket translates into a free credit for a new purchase if the person wins, and the amount of money rewarded depends on how much they initially spent. Moreover, the project has set the terms that one person will win 500 to 1000 euros weekly if they use their cards in the lottery stores.
Earlier this year, gaming company EEEP released official numbers that showed that illegal video lottery terminals (VLTs) are a billionaire business in the European country. It is estimated that just in 2016 the state lost approximately over a billion dollars. Furthermore, in January the Greek independent authority Commission for Supervision and Regulation of Gaming introduced a gaming project to grant further licenses to operate authorised slot machines.
