Gambling apps will also be available in some other countries, including Australia, Belgium, Canada and Colombia.

US.- Google will allow apps that enable online gambling in its Play Store from March 1. It will also allow ads promoting real-money gambling to be served to users in the following countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the United States.

Each operator will need to be approved by the respective national government and to own a licence specific to the type of games it offers. The categories under which applications can fall are lotteries, sports betting, online casino games or daily fantasy sports.

Operators must have safeguards to prevent underage users from using their apps and must prevent access from countries/regions not covered by their licence. The apps must be free to download and must not use the Google Play’s in-app billing system.

The rules and types of applications permitted will vary by region due to differing laws. In the US, the rules will depend on each state’s legislation.
