Denmark online casinos top sports betting during 3Q18

During the last three months of 2018, Denmark online casinos’ GGR improved at the expense of sports betting revenue, which was down year-on-year.

Denmark.- The online gaming market continues to evolve worldwide, in some countries faster than others. In Denmark’s case, the online segment barely improved year-on-year, even as it grew quarter-on-quarter during the last one of 2018.

In the three months to December 31, locally licensed gambling operators generated GGR of €221.6 million, barely up (0.8%) year-on-year. Nonetheless, Q4 results were 1.9% higher than Q3 2018’s.

Denmark online casinos posted a record for the regulated market as their GGR grew 16% to €74.3 million. Its share of the total industry revenue was up 4.3% to 33.5%, as sports betting was down.

The combined online and land-based sports betting segment took 40.1% of the total, but was down year-on-year. It’s €89 million revenue showed a 7% decline from 4Q2017’s €95.4 million. Meanwhile, mobile channels took 48.2% of the segment’s revenue, down 49.9% year-on-year, posting its third down quarter (year-on-year) in a row.

The market as a whole reached €862 million revenue, up 7.4% from the previous year, Denmark’s Spillemyndigheden explained.
