Casinos in Liechtenstein report €49.1m in GGR

The two casinos in Liechtenstein reported their first full year of economic activity in the territory and totalled €49.1 million in GGR.

Liechtenstein.- The Department of Economic Affairs of Liechtenstein released this week a report that details economic activity from the two casinos in the territory. The facilities generated €49.1 million in gaming gross revenue (GGR) in the latest fiscal year.

2018 was the first full year that Liechtenstein run casino operations. It currently features two facilities, Casino Schaanwald Liechtenstein and Casino Admiral. The latter kicked off its operation in August 2018 and registered the biggest revenue share with €31.9 million. This figure represents a 200% increase from the revenue registered in 2017. The facility also país €12.1 million to the government.

Casino Schaanwald Liechtenstein, operated by Casinos Austria, generated €17.1 million in GGR in the last fiscal year. The facility that opened its doors in October of 2017 registered a significant improvement from 2017’s €2.4 million in GGR. Moreover, it paid the government €6.1 million in taxes.

The report from the Department of Economic Affairs indicated that market surveys conducted by the casinos show that the catchment area for them is larger than expected. “The casinos have attracted players from Bad Ragaz, St. Gallen and Bregenz,” said the department. “The lack of smoking and entrepreneur-friendly legislation also contributed to the success,” it added.
