Online gambling up in Atlantic City

New numbers reveal that whilst casino revenue was up in May, online gambling is the biggest force in the city right now.

US.- The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement released the numbers that show that Atlantic City’s online gambling has risen 27 percent during May, significantly up from the 4.3 percent growth that casinos experienced last month.

Online gambling has been showing a steady rise in revenue in Atlantic City as it features the largest market in the united States. During the first three months of the year, the industry generated US$80.1 million. The results show a total growth of 29.5 percent year-over-year from US$61.8 million. Resorts Digital, one of the two online operators in the state, grew from US$4.46 million to $7.66 million year-on-year.

On the other hand, casinos also experienced good results, as the 4.3 percent increase in revenues translates into approximately than US$230 million. As Herald Courier revealed, if the closed Trump Taj Mahal leaves the picture, the remaining seven casinos in Atlantic City experienced a 12 percent growth in May, with only one casino reporting a revenue fall and a small percentage. In just five months, casinos in the city collected US$1.07 billion, a 3/9 percent rise compared to the same period a year before.

Earlier this month it was also announced that the new regulations regarding casinos in the city will be introduced in the state within 30 to 45 days, approximately mid-July. The measure comes after the request of officials from MGM and Caesars. “We’re going to be working with them on additional ways we can bring Atlantic City’s regulations into the 21st century,” said Chris Christie, governor of New Jersey.
