Maine evaluates a new casino

Residents of Maine State would participate in a public hearing to debate the possible permission for the construction of new casino.

US.- The authorities of Main State revealed a project to legislate a casino expansion. The proposal is to allow the installation of a new gaming venue in southern Main. A public hearing will be held on Wednesday morning in Augusta, Kennebec County, to include the opinion of residents, which may lead to controversy.

The latest project was immediately rejected by the strong No More Casinos Main political committee. Representatives of the action group are expected to participate at this week’s public hearing, although casino companies are optimistic about the possible result. If the proposal is approved in Augusta, the complete bill would be included on this November’s ballot.

However, the local press also revealed that Maine State’s Governor Paul LePage has commented that “there is greed” behind the casino expansion project. The proposal was backed by Lisa Scott, who runs a political committee on Maine, by saying it “will preserve horse racing and provide hundreds of jobs.” Lisa Scott is also Shawn Scott’s sister, the potential owner of the new casino in York County.

The American entrepreneur Shawn Scott has already obtained the approval of his sister’s committee. Lisa has also contributed with US$4.2 million to the casino expansion campaign for the last two years. “I was welcome to pursue the opportunity and wished me success in bringing jobs and tax revenues as well as helping to preserve the horse racing industry,” revealed Lisa to the press. And added she was “drawing up plans now and looking at sites.”

Lisa continued: “I personally plan to oversee this project and am committed to assembling a world-class team resulting in a facility that all of Maine can be proud of.”
