Wisconsin casino to begin construction in 2020

The Ho-Chunk Nation tribe has revealed it expects to begin construction of its Beloit, Wisconsin casino in 2020.

US.- After nearly a decade of discussing the plans for a large casino and waterpark development by the Ho-Chunk Nation, leaders have finally started legal proceedings to get the venue going and plan to begin construction by 2020.

The casino would include a gambling area with over 2,000 slots, a 300-room hotel, five restaurants and stores, a 40,000 square foot waterpark and a convention center. So far, Rock County and Beloit City Council have publicly endorsed the construction of the casino. The investment is estimated to be around US$405 million as the tribe plans to build next to the I-90 by Colley Road.

“This is a potential game-changer for our local community, and the impact is dramatic,” said Beloit City Manager, Lori Luther regarding the development, in which the City of Beloit will take part. According to the tribe, the casino and waterpark are expected to generate over 1,500 jobs once it’s up and running.

Nonetheless, there’s always opposition to projects like this; in this case, Senator Dave Syverson (R-IL) has voiced his own concerns about the casino potentially taking business away from Rockford’s convention center and possibly even BMO Harris Bank Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He claims that it will “devastate Rockford.”

Even so, the tribe has started the process, as it must first get approval from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and then they must hold public discussions in Beloit. After that, Governor Scott Walker must approve it himself, and finally the Trump administration must issue approval.
