West Virginia racetracks may establish secondary casinos

The House Judiciary approved a bill to allow the state’s four racetrack-casinos to establish secondary locations within counties they’re in.

US.- Gambling may soon be expanded in West Virginia as the House Judiciary approved a bill to allow the four racetrack-casinos to establish secondary locations within the counties they’re in.It would allow a second casino to be installed in any building each racino owns or leases, able to offer table games, slots, sports betting and possibly simulcast racing.

HB2901 was written in order to get a decent share of funds going from casinos to the city hosting them, while extra revenue would be divided between the original city and the locality hosting the new casino.

According to West Virginia Racing Association president John Cavacini, Delaware North – which owns Wheeling Island and Mardi Gras casinos – is interested in opening a satellite location just outside of Wheeling. However, he said that no other companies besise them have voiced any interest in satellite locations.

Still, the bill requires Lottery Commission approval for any application for a second site, and all business is conducted at public meetings to allow public comment, Lottery Director John Myers explained.
