UK gambling firms face daytime advertising ban
Experts claim a growing number of children see gambling as the norm because of adverts often seen during football matches.
UK.- The UK government upcoming review of the gambling industry would ban all gambling TV ads before the 9pm watershed. The current rules say that gambling companies can advertise before 9pm if they’re a bingo operator or if the ads appear during breaks in a live sport event.
The UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is set to launch a review into the FOBTs in bookmakers’ betting shops. Multiple sources suggested that this review could also analyse betting advertising’s impact.
A Nielsen report showed that gambling operators from the UK spent £118.5 million on TV spots last year, almost £40 million more than in 2012. It is expected that any push to restrict gambling advertising will be taken with resistance from UK broadcasters.
