Telangana passes bill to ban games of skill

The Indian state passed a bill on Monday that aims to ban games of skill for stakes.

India.- The legislative assembly from Telangana has reportedly passed the Telangana Gaming (Amendment) Bill, 2017, on Monday. The bill wants to determine games that include money as offences in the territory.

The bill that was introduced by Telangana Home Minister Naini Narshimha Reddy, seeks to convert two Ordinances promulgated by the state government earlier this year into a proper legislation, local media reported. Reddy said in a brief statement that gambling has had a very “bad effect on the standard of life” and that the state government has raided several gambling clubs in the last couple of years.

The minister also said that under the new amendments all games that involve money, such as games of skills, have been included under the gambling label and have been made cognisable and non-bailable offences.
