State gambling thrives in Spain

Galicia recorded figures showing state-operated gambling thrives in Spain and especially in that region, where it accounted for 5% of total sales.

Spain.- State-operated gambling is the most popular in Galicia, Spain, despite several hurdles for the segment. Recent figures show its success, which accounted for 5% of total industry sales in this segment.

According to Infoplay, Galicia is sixth among state-operated gambling usage in Spain. Only Andalucía, Madrid, Catalonia, Valenciana and Castilla-Leon are higher.

Traditional lotteries and primitives are the favourite game in Spain. Together with the other Loterías y Apuestas del Estado games, they reached sales close to €530 million in 2018. It represents a 2.9% increase from 2017.

Casino gaming

The A Laxe shopping centre already has a sign that reads “Casino de Vigo” on its facade. The venue is getting closer to open and the specific date will be announced in the coming days.

Operators still need the opening licence to open shop. In addition, they have yet to select the staff and get administrative permits. Still, the room may open in the next two months.

Even as they planned to open during Holy Week, construction work was delayed. The Casino de Vigo would to boost the city’s economy and attract more tourism.

Cirsa and Luckia received in September 2018 the authorisation of the Xunta de Galicia to install a casino in Vigo. The company had revealed it invested approximately US$1 million in the first stage of construction of the premises nine and ten of the A Laxe Shopping Center located in Cánovas del Castillo.
