Sports betting is already a success in the US

Sports betting has already shown good financial results in the country.

US.- Delaware, West Virginia and Mississippi have already shown their financial results on legalised sports betting, giving optimistic reports for the states that are also evaluating their own legislation. The three states together have collected slightly more than US$3 million in tax revenue.

“Gambling and football are intertwined like no other sport. Even non-gamblers know the point spread for their games. All the pregame shows do [game] picks with Vegas lines,” Richard Auxier, a research associate at the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, told Bloomberg Tax.

“Betting revenue will obviously increase during the NFL season, and more states will legalise it, but they must realise that this is a low-margins business and should not be looked at as a way to fill budget holes,” added Sara Slane, senior vice president of public affairs at the American Gaming Association (AGA).

The US Supreme Court decided to overrule the Act that prevented states from offering sports betting services, and sports leagues are trying to find common ground to adapt to a new system that highlights integrity and could lead them to a big source of revenue.
