Sports betting in North Carolina passes another committee
The state Senate Judiciary Committee has approved a bill to legalise sports betting in the state.
US.- A bill to legalise and tax sports betting in North Carolina has passed the Senate Judiciary Committee. It comes a day after the bill passed the Senate Finance Committee.
The proposed legislation would grant 10 to 12 sports betting licences for land-based and online gambling operations. Each licence would require an initial $500,000 payment and would be taxed an 8 per cent on transactions. There would be a $100,000 renewal fee.
Since a Supreme Court decision in 2019, 20 states have legalised sports betting, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
