Spain clarifies casinos cannot reopen

Spain has clarified that casinos cannot yet be given a date to reopen despite a relaxation of the country’s Covid-19 lockdown.

Spain.- Spanish gaming regulator DGOJ has published an announcement to clarify that casinos cannot yet reopen as the country eases some of its lockdown restrictions.

Spain is one of the countries that has been most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic but the country is beginning to ease restrictions.

SELAE state lottery outlets reopened this week, and the ONCE lottery vendors will begin working again from June 15. 

But the DGOJ has now clarified that casinos and games halls will still not be permitted to open.

The statement read: “In no way can the lack of a specific mention of  casinos, games halls, betting venues, raffles and tombolas and other similar gaming establishments be interpreted as an oversight on the regulator’s part, but rather an express decision to maintain such establishments closed until notice is given to the contrary.”

Earlier this month Spain’s DGOJ named a new director, Mikel Arana.
