Public hearing to decide on proposed casinos

Mississippi will host a hearing to comment on site requests for two casinos in the area.

US.- The Mississippi Gaming Commission announced that they will hold a public hearing on February 16 to discuss gaming site approval requests. The proposals will be received in D’Iberville from Jacobs Entertainment Diamondhead and RW Development.

Last week, the Commission said that they agreed to take into consideration the requests, and they will host a second meeting to keep discussing the decision, the voting process will happen later this year. Michael Cavanaugh, an attorney from RW Development, said that back in 2008 the project was rejected because they didn’t have control on the lands to the water’s edge. He is confident that although the project is pretty much the same, the commissioners aren’t and that there’s a chance that they will have a positive outcome.

The Mayor Tommy Schafer, said that the need the approval before taking further steps. Without it, the Diamondhead City Council should not even consider a project. “The city of Diamondhead should enjoy the same economic opportunities as other cities that have chosen to provide space for casinos,” he added.
