Pennsylvania casinos face smoking ban
Pennsylvania legislators are evaluating several bills concerning casino industry, including a potential smoking ban in drinking venues.
US.- Players at Pennsylvania casinos will not be able to smoke inside the gaming venues anymore. Whilst the state’s legislature is debating several gaming bills to expand the industry, officials have shown support on the latest project that proposes a general ban free smoking areas inside bars, private clubs, casinos and hotels.
Pennsylvania legislators have presented an amendment to withdraw smoking exemptions in drinking venues. The bill has gained major support by both the Republican and the Democratic parties and the state’s government confirmed it is highly expected that the new law comes into force soon.
Furthermore, Kevin Joyce, Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association executive board member and owner of the Carlton venue, told WTAE-TV Pittsburgh that legislators should “think about the employees who are spending 40, 50, 60 hours a week in that environment and the effects that are going to be there, 10, 20, 30 years down the road.”
The smoking ban amendment, introduced by Rep. Matthew Baker, R-Tioga County, would be soon assessed by the Pennsylvania Health Committee, which will determine in the following weeks whether the law will become effective or not.
State’s legislators are also debating gaming proposals including the potential legalisation of iGaming industry, sports betting platforms and casino tax conditions. The gaming industry boosts communities’ revenues and the government’s funds for social development.
