Online poker is considered in NY
Last year, New York State also included online poker in the budget, but it was dismissed by the State Assembly.
US.- Whilst legislators are debating a clear law to regulate the authorised online poker market in the state of New York, the Senate has included the potential industry in its budget proposal, approved on Wed 15. The state’s Assembly also presented its budget without considering online poker legalisation.
Officials from both entities will be discussing the final result of including iPoker in the state’s budget during the following weeks. They have until March 31 to set a definitive resolution. Although last year the Senate also included the currently illegal modality, the lack of definition obliged representatives to eliminate the consideration.
If lawmakers finally approve the bill this year, New York State will receive fees of US$ 10 million from every licensed operator, which are expected to be at least 11. Furthermore, the legal industry will boost the general gaming revenue.
The gaming bill has been passed by the Senate’s Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering and will be seemingly debated by the Assembly before June 21. The online poker regulation was introduced by Senator John Bonacic this year, after his first attempt of legalisation was dismissed by the Assembly in 2016.
