US.- New York City will require visitors and staff members at casinos and other entertainment venues to show proof of vaccination. Mayor Bill de Blasio’s announcement expands an earlier vaccine requirement for indoor dining that comes into effect this week.

The new policy also includes museums, bars, gyms, theatres and sports stadiums. Customers will be required to have had at least one Covid-19 shot. New York is the first US city to impose such a mandate. Enforcement will begin on September 13.

Mayor de Blasio said: “The goal here is to convince everyone that this is the time. If we’re going to stop the delta variant, the time is now.”

People will be able to show their vaccination status via the city’s app, NYC Covid safe, the state’s Excelsior app, or their paper vaccination card. The announcement comes two months after casinos in New York returned to full capacity.
