New Jersey racetracks fight for sports betting
A new legal battle surrounding sports betting operations in New Jersey has begun.
US.- Developer Cherry Hill Towne Center Partners has applied for a sports betting licence in the State of New Jersey, although the company has taken the case to the Justice as they faced unexpected challenges. According to the company, a State’s document prevents the Cherry Hill Towne Center Partners from obtaining the licence in favour of former Garden State Park.
The federal lawsuit argues that “a company whose parent company” used to operate the former Garden State Park is allegedly preventing Cherry Hill Towne Center Partners from obtaining the New Jersey sports betting licence, as the 1999 document “permanently forbids wagering activity other than by defendant Garden State Park Racing and its successors.”
Meanwhile, the Garden State Park, which ended its racing services in 2001, is filing a response next month and has refused to give statements to the press.
The sports betting segment is already up and running in New Jersey and is set to improve casino operators’ revenue in the state. However, experts believe that the newly introduced business will also boost the area’s economy in other ways related to gambling.
