New Jersey losing $540m a month in casino revenue
American Gaming Association also believes that more than 26,000 casino workers have lost their jobs due to the Coronavirus closure.
US. The American Gaming Association (AGA) has estimated that New Jersey will lose around $540million in casino revenue every month due to the forced Coronavirus closure.
The AGA also believes that more than 26,000 casino workers have lost their jobs since casinos were mandated to close their doors.
Casey Clark, Vice President of Strategic Communications for the AGA said in statement that the sector will recover once the crisis is over, just as they did following the Global Financial Crash.
“Right now, we’re focused on working with the federal government so that all corners of the industry — from gaming hubs like Las Vegas and Atlantic City to regional and tribal gaming properties, suppliers and the small businesses that depend on us — have the ability to weather this unprecedented public health crisis,” the statement said.
Three weeks ago, Governor Phil Murphy ordered the state’s nine casinos to shut down as part of efforts to combat Covid-19.
“It is no longer the time for business as usual. This is real. Stop believing folks who say this isn’t real,” Murphy said at the time.
