Missouri lawmakers interested in sports betting

The representatives are interested in another push that would legalise sports betting in the state.

US.- Missouri lawmakers are reportedly interested in making another run at legalising sports betting. The state is trying to collect revenue after the US Supreme Court lifted the federal ban on sports betting.

State officials said that the Senate and the House will likely study the possibility of joining other states that have already started offering bets on sporting events. “I certainly anticipate it being out there for discussion before the House and the Senate,” said Rep. Dean Plocher, who sponsored a sports betting legislation earlier this year but failed.

Plocher confirmed that multiple drafts have circulated ever since the high court issued the decision to struck the Act that prevented states from deciding whether they wanted to offer sports betting or not. “Let’s be honest, the Supreme Court let the cat out of the bag on that one,” Plocher said. “There might as well be some continuity to it in how it’s regulated and enforced.”

While Senator Denny Hoskins said that sports betting could bring between US$18 million and US$40 million in new revenue, casino owners reported that the modality could add up to US$60 million in revenues annually.
