“Our team is well-positioned to contribute to Yokohama’s future”
The casino company Melco Resorts has announced a “Yokohama First” policy in which it will focus all of its efforts on that city.
Japan.- Melco Resorts is one of the companies that are pushing to host an integrated resort (IR) in Japan. The operator said that it has adopted a “Yokohama First” policy that will see all of Melco’s efforts in winning the bid to host the casino in Yokohama.
Melco had already announced this month the move to open a third office in Japan, but specifically in Yokohama. While it had an office in Tokyo and Osaka, Melco revealed that it has given up its efforts to host an integrated resort in the latter.
Lawrence Ho, CEO and Chairman of Melco Resorts, said that “Yokohama First” means that the team of experts and talents that the company has assembled will focus on bringing to Yokohama “the best IR the world has ever seen.”
“Our team is well-positioned to contribute to Yokohama’s future and to support the community in its ambition to become a global tourism destination. This is a commitment to the city, our partners and the community there,” said Ho.
When announcing “Yokohama First”, Melco also said that it won’t proceed with its Osaka’s IR process. “I would like to thank the city of Osaka for their consideration and for constructive dialogues that we have had with them,” Ho said. “They demonstrated a very professional approach in their commitment to build an IR in Yumeshima. I would like to personally thank the Osaka government for the collaborative discussions we had with them over the years.”
