Melco bets on Osaka

The owner of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd. said the company would invest in Osaka.

Japan.- As a new casino industry is taking its first steps in the Japanese market, major gaming brands are already presenting millionaire projects to develop the sector. As Bloomberg reported this weekend, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd.’s owner, Lawrence Ho, commented the plans of the company in Japan.

Ho stated that Osaka is the main target to install a Melco casino, as the city offers more opportunities than Japan. Osaka could become the next Asian gaming and entertaining hub, according to the casino entrepreneur. Meanwhile, Las Vegas Sands Corp. and MGM Resorts International are studying the potential markets of Tokyo, Osaka and Yokohama as well.

Osaka and the Kansai region are already highly visited due to the popular Buddhist temples and the Universal Studios Japan. However, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd. is also evaluating business opportunities in Tokyo and Yokohama. “When you go to the Kansai region, it’s more fun, really, and we’re a company that focuses on fun and entertainment,” told Ho to Bloomberg.

Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd. has immediately shown its interest in developing the Japanese casino market, which is estimated to be one of the most profitable at global level. Local legislators are currently discussing further laws to control the industry and set conditions for the operating, licensing and tax process.
