Louisiana DFS bill fails to pass
Though voters had agreed to legalise the segment, lawmakers have decided that the Louisiana DFS bill won’t pass this session.
US.- Sports betting continues to expand in the US and states want to get on board. However, the legislative session in Louisiana ended late last week and took away the chances to legalise DFS in the short-term. Lawmakers had to decide on rules and tax rates but failed to reach an agreement and postponed the matter.
The uncertainty around the segment comes even as voters in the state agreed on its legalisation months ago Still, it could be two years or more before Louisiana DFS goes live.
“The question we now have to ask ourselves is, what is the point of having an election on issues if the legislators we send to Baton Rouge to create the appropriate regulatory framework and tax structure refuse to do so?” Ryan Berni, spokesman for Fairness for Fantasy Sports Louisiana said.
“Senators allowed personal politics to prevail, rather than the desires of the people they claim to represent,” Berni said.
Republican Rep. Kirk Talbot, of River Ridge submitted two bills that would enact the rules and taxing plans required. However, lawmakers didn’t reach an agreement on Louisiana DFS regulations and ultimately caused the proposal to fail.
