Lottoland expands to Italy
Amidst controversies over the possible ban on synthetic lotteries in Australia, the operator announced its expansion into the Italian market.
Italy.- Italy’s online gambling market has now another international company developing its operations, as Lottoland has announced the acquisition of a majority stake in Giochi24, the most popular lotto and iGaming site in the country.
Giochi24 is one of the first companies to get the necessary approvals from Dogane e dei Monopoli, the local gaming regulator, to operate in the country. The acquisition will see both companies combining their experience in the sector.
Moreover, Lottoland has launched its own site, which allows Italian players to buy tickets and play lottery games such as SuperEnalotto, 10e Lotto, instant win games, bingo and casino games and scratch cards.
Nigel Birrell, CEO of Lottoland, said that they’re very content with the partnership as it allows them to enter into another regulated market. “Italy is a vibrant, growing market with huge potential and we are very confident there is a strong appetite for our jackpot offering,” Birrell added.
With this acquisition, the company now has eight national gambling licences in its portfolio, as it has three in the UK, two in Gibraltar, and one in Ireland and Australia. However, there is a chance that the company could lose its Aussie permit since there is a proposal that could ban betting on overseas lotteries. The company could challenge the Australian Court if the legislation passes the federal parliament.
