Japan’s government discusses casino licenses
The Japanese government is planning on introducing a licensing system for casino operators.
Japan.- The government of Japan is currently assessing the idea of introducing a licensing system for casino operators that would establish that licenses must be renewed periodically. The news were announced by The Yomiuri Shumbun after the news outlet obtained a draft of the regulation policy.
The local authorities are aiming to screen operators that want to be involved in the casino business through licensing, and if they obtain one, they would be required to renew them. The Japan News said that the government’s draft establishes that IR business operators are required to have high morals, a sense of responsibility and a clean nature because they will be given a privileged status with exemption from the prohibition of gambling as a crime.
The operators will be examined by a casino control commission, and the draft says that it’s necessary to implement a background check on an unlimited range as needed.
Moreover, Macau-based Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd said that the company can make a big impact in the Asian country if they get a license. “We believe that Japan has a huge opportunity to create something unique that doesn’t just follow the [Las] Vegas model seen in many other markets around the world,” said President of Galaxy Ent to a GGRAsia, and confirmed that Japan is the number one priority for them and the market with the biggest potential.
