Indiana Senate approves casino relocation bill
The Senate approved by 38-11 a bill that authorises casinos to relocate and sends a license to Terre Haute.
US.- The Indiana Senate approved on Wednesday Senate Bill 552, which approves casino relocation and could send a casino licence to Terre Haute, a city that has been waiting to feature a gambling facility for quite some time.
The bill by Mark Messmer and Jon Ford also allows gambling on college and professional sports at casinos or online by pre-registered players. Messmer said that the bill is a “once in a generation opportunity to reset the casino industry in the state and boost the economies of Terre Haute and Gary.”
The bill gives existing casinos the opportunity to relocate, one to a new location in Northwest Indiana and other to Vigo County. Terre Haute could be one of the locations for the relocated casino.
Moreover, the legislative piece features language that protects Evansville and the historic West Baden hotel from being affected due to new competition, similar to other protections in place for other Northwestern Indiana casinos.
