Indian MP questions authorities about gambling

MP Amar Singh has questioned the government over the potential gambling and betting legalisation in the country.

India.- The Indian government may be considering legalising gambling in the country, according to rumours that have startled local politicians. In response to those rumours, independent member of the Parliament, Amar Singh, has questioned the authorities whether they plan to regulate the industry or not.

The member of the upper house raised a starred question to Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad and asked him to clarify if the Law Commission of India has submitted a proposal to legalise gambling and betting. Furthermore, he requested details about the said proposal and asked what the government plans to do in consequence.

On December 14 the Law Minister is expected to reply to MP Singh’s starred question during a meeting where members will also be able to ask him follow-up questions.

Currently, only Goa, Sikkin and the Union Territory of Daman host gambling operations in India, excepting for lotteries or skill-based games, which are legal in some states.
