Greece postpones Hellinikon casino bid again

The commission had set May 31 as the deadline to submit offers to build a casino in Hellinikon but postponed the date for the bids again.

Greece.- The Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC) announced on Monday that it has decided to postpone once again the deadline for potential suitors to submit a bid for a license to operate a casino resort in Hellenikon.

The original date for the Hellinikon casino bid had been set at April 22 and was later moved to May 31 due to issues pertaining to zoning. Companies interested in building and operating a casino with a luxury hotel, conference and recreation facilities on an old disused airport in Hellenikon will have time until June 28 to submit their bids.

While this is the second pushback, the HGC hasn’t mentioned why they changed the date yet again. “An extension for the submission of offers for the concession of a wide-range activities Casino Operating License (EKAZ) in the Hellinikon – Agios Kosmas Metropolitan Pole (Call for Tenders Ref. 1/2019) is granted,” reads the statement from HGC.

“The deadline for the submission of offers is extended until Friday, June 28, 2019, 11:00 am. The remaining terms of the Call for Tenders remain unchanged.”

The operator that wins the bid will be in charge of the creation of an Integrated Resort Casino (IRC) to be built over more than 600k square meters. Moreover, the operator must invest no less than €1 billion in the property.
