French iGaming industry grew in 2017

The online gambling market had a great performance in 2017, pushed by a strong fourth quarter, ARJEL revealed.

France.- French gaming regulator ARJEL revealed online gambling’s official figures and informed about a great performance by the segment in 2017. According to the report, a solid fourth quarter pushed the full year’s figures to one of the greatest performances by the segment in France.

Online sports betting turnover rose about 33 per cent to €704 million in the fourth quarter, while online betting revenue surged 82 per cent to a new record of €163 million. Furthermore, total active bettors in Q4 were up 25 per cent to 1.12 million while active weekly bettors jumped 43 per cent to 393,000.

Q4 gains pushed full year online betting turnover up 21 per cent to €2.5 billion, as revenue rose 35 per cent to €472 million. Both figures have set new records since online gambling was authorised in the country.

The segment is expected to continue growing as France began an online poker liquidity sharing with Spain last month, with Portugal set to join in the upcoming weeks. Italy, will also be included in the pool but it’s still unclear when it will happen.
