Judge favours Encore Boston Harbor

A federal judge in Massachusetts dismissed a lawsuit challenging Wynn Resorts’ licence for its Encore Boston Harbor in Everett.

US.- A US$3 billion lawsuit was pending over Wynn Resorts over allegedly cheating to win a Massachusetts casino licence. However, a federal judge favoured the company’s Encore Boston Harbor and dismissed the claim.

US District Court Chief Judge Patti Saris says Sterling Suffolk Racecourse’s allegations don’t constitute racketeering violations under the RICO act.

The casino’s performance

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has released the financial figures from October, showing that Encore Boston Harbor once again dominated the gambling scene in the state. However, the casino posted its lowest figure since opening in late June.

Encore Boston Harbor registered US$45.8 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR), which is US$5 million less than the previous month. Table games accounted for US$22.5 million in GGR, down from the US$27 million in September. Slots generated US$22.2 million in GGR in October, approximately US$500k more than in September.

In the third quarter of the year, the casino generated US$114.9 million in operating revenues. Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox said that each quarter they will tweak their marketing, focus on growing their database, work on controlling expenses and increase revenues. “So I am very excited about the transition that we’ve been through and the future of this company as we move forward into 2020,” he added.
