California tribes to sue state regulators
Californian tribes may soon decide to sue the state gaming regulators for not enforcing their monopoly over certain casino games.
US.- Casino gambling has a very unique regime in the US, as Native American tribes are the main operators nationwide and hold the monopoly to offer certain types of gambling. However, Californian tribes could soon sue the state regulators for not enforcing their right to monopolise such games.
Despite the tribes’ confrontative approach on the topic, regulators asserted that they’re looking into the problem. Stephanie Shimazu, director of the Bureau of Gambling Control in California, wrote in a statement that the BGC “plans to rescind game rules approvals for games too similar to 21/blackjack that are prohibited by state law (in the 74 card rooms statewide),” as quoted by CDC Gaming Reports Inc.
“We will notify cardrooms and defer enforcement for a specified period of time to enable cardrooms to prepare for this action,” Shimazu further stated.
However, the tribes aren’t even close to being satisfied by Ms Shimazu’s statement. According to the chairman of the California Nations Indian Gaming Association, Steve Stallings, the regulator is deploying a “delaying tactic” and asserted: “At this point, we’re suing.”
