Bloomberry expects to score a Japanese IR
The Philippine-based company is hoping to get the licence to develop an IR in Japan’s Wakayama Marina City.
Japan.- Philippine casino operator Bloomberry Resorts is eagerly expecting the legalisation of the casino industry in Japan as it hopes to score its own licence for a development. The company, which has had an office in Tokyo since 2014, expects to secure the rights to create an integrated resort (IR) in Japan’s Wakayama Marina City.
Wakayama’s governor Yoshinobu Nisaka has recently met with seven IR operators – Bloomberry included – at Japan Gaming Congress. Takeshi Hojo, the company’s president in Japan, said he felt positive about the governor “not making the licensing procedure a political issue,” AGBrief reported.
Despite having good chances of scoring a licence, the company will have to fight competition with larger budgets and may be facing defeat once IR licences get awarded. “Whether or not our effort will come to fruition, we still want to do it anyway,” Bloomberry Resorts CFO and Treasurer Estella Tuason-Occeña explained.
The Japanese lower chamber has recently passed a bill to protect problem gamblers and may legalise the casino industry before the current Diet session ends on June 20th.
