Tomakomai seeking to overturn IR decision
An environmental survey determined that 100 hectares can be used for IR development.
Japan.- The Tomakomai city government is seeking to overturn Hokkaido prefecture’s decision to drop support for the city’s integrated resort (IR) plans.
It’s touting a recent environmental survey that determined that about 100 hectares in the candidate area could be used without damaging the ecosystem.
The city says the study shows that if proper conservation measures are taken, and groundwater is taken only from below 130 meters, the development would not damage habitats.
The fact that candidate land for the IR development was probably inhabited by local species of animals and flora was one of the main reasons Governor Naomichi Suzukalong dropped support for the development last November.
