Genting Malaysia has closed all operations at Resorts World Genting until further notice due to a total lockdown ordered by the government.

Malaysia.- Resorts World Genting has closed all of its services until further notice after Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced a nationwide Covid-19 lockdown.

The lockdown will remain for at least two weeks due to a rise in Covid-19 cases. The Ministry of Health has reported a total of 6,824 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

Resorts World Genting: “RWG will be temporarily closed until further notice. Essential resort-based services such as security, bomba, utilities and clinics will remain operational.”

Last week Genting Malaysia had announced the closure of the casino but said the resort’s hotels, food and beverage outlets, shopping malls, retail outlets and other facilities remained open.

Genting Malaysia had been highly criticised by two opposition politicians, who had questioned why it was allowed to continue operating while the country was seeing a rise in Covid-19 cases.

Nomura analysts have recently predicted Genting Malaysia will post a net loss of MYR651m and adjusted earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of MYR844m.

Analysts said revenue could reach MYR5.25bn (US$1.26bn), down from a previous forecast of MYR6.32bn (US$1.54bn).
