Macau: 2,600 people held in quarantine hotels

A total of 12 hotels have been requisitioned by the SAR government to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

Macau.- More than 2,600 people are being held in medical quarantine in 12 hotel across Macau as part of efforts to combat Coronavirus.

According Inside Asian Gaming, 2,418 people are local residents and the rest are non-resident workers from mainland China. The majority are not infected and will be sent home in the coming days.

On Tuesday, Sands China’s Sheraton Grand Macao at Sands Cotai Central became the first hotel within one of Macau’s integrated resorts to be transformed into a quarantine hotel as part of efforts to stop the spread of Covid-19.

A total of 12 hotels have been requisitioned by the SAR government so far, the others being Pousada Marina Infante Hotel, Golden Crown China Hotel, Regency Art Hotel, Grand Coloane Resort, Metropole Hotel, Treasure Hotel, San Tung Fong Commercial Inn South Wing, Grand Lapa, Grand Harbour Hotel, Royal Dragon Hotel and Jai Alai Hotel.

Last week, the government imposed new measures for visitors.

Residents from Hong Kong and Taiwan that want to enter Macau city will be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine in one of the city’s designated quarantine hotels.

All foreign visitors, including those to have spent the previous 14 days in Hong Kong, mainland China or Taiwan, are barred from entering Macau, as are foreign non-resident workers known as blue cardholders.
