Delhi: 14 arrested at illegal casino

The illegal casino was functioning out of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Mahipalpur, in southwest Delhi.

India.- Police have arrested fourteen people in New Delhi in relation to an alleged illegal casino that was functioning out of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Mahipalpur.

According to Deputy Police Commissioner Ingit Pratap Singh, police received information that gambling halls had been moved to hotels and farmhouses in and around Delhi.

He said: “During the raid, 14 people, including five women, were found gambling using the chips and coins in the room on special tables. They were taken into custody.”

Police said chips were being used as transaction currency during card play with the actual cash payment made the next day.

All the men arrested wre from Delhi-NCR while four women from Nepal were arrested and one from Punjab.

Police also seized Rs 1.1 lakh in cash, 30 sets of cards and 6,100 chips worth Rs 30.5 lakh.

Delhi police have reported that 6,291 people were arrested in 2,414 cases related to gambling in the Indian capital last year.
