Albania fights against illegal betting
The police from Albania has taken action against illegal betting operations in the territory and arrested multiple people.
Albania.- Betting shops that were operating legally in Albania closed their doors last year. Thus, illegal operations started to rise in the territory, but authorities are trying to counterattack by shutting them down.
Police in Albania received multiple complaints from the public and the prosecution office care out a wide-ranging operation against illegal betting late last week. The move ended up with the police arresting 115 people, Top-Channel reported.
The police seized large amounts of money, computers that were working as gambling elements, firearms, mobile phones and other accessories utilised to organise and implement the criminal activity.
Moreover, it was revealed that these raids took place while there was a Europa League game being played and when the illegal betting points were fully operational in Tirana, Durres, Elbasan, Fier, Berat, Korça, Lezha and Shkodra.
The decision to close all betting shops was reached at the end of 2018. Before the decision, there were 4,300 betting shops in the country (with 2.1 million inhabitants).
