Coronavirus to cost US gambling industry $21bn

American Gaming Association also warns that up to 530,000 jobs could be lost as casinos close to prevent the virus from spreading.

US.- The American Gaming Association (AGA) expects the US gambling industry to lose US$21.3 billion due to the Coronavirus crisis.

The organisation said the next eight weeks will be critical for the sector after hundreds of casinos across the country closed their doors as part of efforts to halt the spread of the deadly virus.

Nearly every casino in the US, both private and tribal, has pulled down the shutters this week.

This, according to the AGA, could cost 530,000 jobs with the likes of Caesars already making redundancies.

“The American Gaming Association, in partnership with our colleagues across the hospitality sector, is engaged with Congressional and administration leadership to shape stimulus and aid packages that will support employees, their families, and our communities through this unprecedented crisis,” Casey Clark, the AGA’s SVP of Strategic Communications, said in a statement.
