Osaka completes IR plan

The government came up with a plan to construct an integrated resort at the manmade island Yumeshima.

Japan.- City governments of Osaka and the prefectural revealed the “Interim Framework Plan” to build an integrated resort at Yumeshima. The plan emphasises that the integrated resort that would open in 2023 or 2024 would use high technology.

Osaka’s government would have to chose an operator to run the Yumeshima IR by the end of 2019 and then it would open its doors by 2023 or 2024. The Governor of the city Ichiro Matsui urged the national government to pass the legislation necessary to continue the process to build an IR: “This is a message to please pass the IR Implementation Bill in this autumn’s Diet session. For our part here in Osaka, all of our preparations are completed,” AGBrief reported.

The plan puts high technology in the spotlight as the integrated resort would include measures to overcome problems like gambling addiction. It is believed that technology could help authorities to identify people who should be excluded from the facilities as soon as possible.

Japan carried out a public hearings’ tour that finished on Tuesday in order to discuss gaming policies and receive casino projects. Local cities have officially started the competition to obtain the casino license for the upcoming Japanese market. Rinku Town in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture, Wakayama Marina City in Wakayama Prefecture and Yumeshima island in Osaka Bay were named as potential bidders for the development of integrated resorts.
